The General Rules of the Wise County Youth Fair and the following rules will govern the Sheep Department. 2. Entry fees are $20.00 for Breeding Sheep and Market Lamb. Entry fee and entry forms must be turned in on or before February 16, 2008. Late registration deadline is February 22, 2008. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION AND EXPLANATION SEE RULE #2 UNDER GENERAL RULES. 3. Exhibitors will be permitted to show a maximum of two (2) head per class in the breeding sheep show. 4. Ewe and ram lambs entered in the breeding show MUST have milk teeth. 5. Sheep department entries will have the following ownership dates: Market Lambs—January 5, 2008 Breeding Sheep—February 1, 2008 6. Arrival time of Breeding Sheep and Market Lambs will be Wednesday at 3:00-7:00 p.m. Exhibitor should check with the sheep superintendent upon arrival for pen assignments. 7. There must be at least 5 head entered to constitute a breeding lamb show. 8. Market lambs MUST be ear tagged, nose printed and tattooed at state validation or county tag-in. Animals may be validated or tagged in the family name with exhibitor designated at time of weigh-in. 9. Market lamb exhibitors are required to weigh their animals on Wednesday between 5:00—7:00 p.m. The Breeding Sheep show will begin at 8:00 a.m. Thursday followed by the Market Lamb Show. 10. Exhibitors of market lambs or their immediate family must own their animals from the county tag in date to the following Show Date. 11. The top twenty (20) market lambs that are eligible will be sold in the Youth Fair Auction on Saturday. 12. Market lambs will be classified at time of weigh-in by a one(1) member classifying team. The judgment of the division classifiers is final and is not subject to protest. 13. All market lambs will be classified into three (3) divisions: Southdown, Fine Wool Cross, Medium Wool/Shropshire. 14. Market lambs will be classified by division then by weight at the time of weigh-in. Minimum weight 100 lbs. NO maximum weight. Exception in the Southdown division—minimum weight will be 80 lbs. 15. Only one weigh-in per animal will be allowed and will be final. 16. The superintendent shall determine the number of lamb classes in each division after all lambs are classified and weighed in. 17. Champion & Reserve from each three (3) divisions will compete for GRAND and RESERVE OVERALL. 18. The Overall Grand and Reserve, and the Champion and Reserve from each division will be sold, then a percent of each division will be sold staying as close to twenty (20) lots as possible. It will be divided by the total number of lamb entries in all divisions based on a percentage will be in the sale. Give or take one (1) lamb. 19. STATE AND FEDERAL SCRAPIE REQUIREMENTS: All female sheep, both market and breeding, must have an official USDA Scrapie Eradication Program Identification Tag and adhere to any current scrapie requirement as outlined by the Texas Animal Health Commission. Tattoos may be used to identify registered or meat and dairy show goats, as long as the animals are accompanied by their registration papers. All non-registered goats must have the USDA Scrapie Tag.
