RULES AND INFORMATION
1.  The General Rules of the Wise County Youth Fair and the following
rules govern the Dairy Department.

2.  Entry fee is $20.00.  Entry fee and entry forms must be turned in on or
before February 16, 2008.  Late registration deadline is February 22, 2008.

GENERAL RULES.

3.  A substitution fee of $5 may be paid and a substitution made between
the time animals are entered and the time they arrive at the fair grounds.  
This does not apply to Dairy Auction Heifers.

4.  Dairy Cattle may begin arriving at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.  Sale Heifer
Weigh-in will be 6-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.  The Dairy Show will begin at 1:30
p.m. on Wednesday.

5.  Dairy Cattle will be awarded premiums and ribbons on this point
classification system:
    85-95 points—Blue ribbon, Cash premium
    80-84 points—Red ribbon, Cash premium
    75-79 points—White ribbon, Cash premium

6.  Exhibitors should check in with the Dairy Superintendent upon arrival
for stall assignment.  Assignments will be posted at north end of Dairy
Barn.

7.  Exhibitors will be permitted to show a maximum of two (2) head per
class.

8.  The following breeds may be exhibited in the Youth Fair:  Holstein,
Jersey, Brown Swiss, and others.

9.  Exhibitors must maintain control of their animals.  Uncontrollable
animals will be barred from the show.

10.  Dairy animals must have been owned 30 days prior to the Youth Fair.

11.  Exhibitors who plan to show producing milk cows will be allowed to
delay arrival of these specific animals until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday.  These
producing animals will also be allowed to leave the fair grounds after the
show.  This rule applies only to producing dairy cows.

12.  Exhibitors are required to furnish the correct birth date of their
exhibits on the entry cards.  This will be verified by the 4-H leader or FFA
instructor.  If a question arises, registration papers or an examination of
the animals teeth will verify age.

13.  Exhibitors are expected to keep their animals and stalls attended at
all times.

DAIRY CATTLE CLASSES:
1.   Junior Heifer Calf  (2 months to 6 months of age)
2.   Junior Heifer Calf  (6 months to 10 months of age)
3.   Junior Heifer Calf  (10 months to 14 months of age)
4.   Senior Heifer Calf  (14 months to 18 months of age)
5.   Senior Heifer Calf  (18 months to 24 months of age)
6.   Junior Champion Female  
  Classes 1—5 Rosette for each breed (not in milk)
7.   Cows  (24 months to 36 months of age)
8.   Cows  (36 months to 5 years of age)
9.   Cows  (5 years of age and older)
10. Senior Champion Female
   Rosettes each breed
11. Holstein Breed Champion
12. Brown Swiss Breed Champion
13. Jersey Breed Champion
14. Best Uddered Cow
15. Best Fitted Female

   Junior Showmanship (exhibitors 9-13 as of day of show)
   Senior Showmanship (exhibitors 14-19 as of day of show)

16.    Dairy Sale Heifer
Classes may be combined by Dairy Superintendent to better fit the number of animals entered.
Rules and Regulations for Sale of Dairy Heifers:
1.  The Dairy Heifer Sale is open to all members of 4-H and FFA clubs in Wise County.

2.  Auction heifers will be exhibited immediately following the completion of the regular Dairy Show.

3.  
Heifers selected for the sale will be included with the WCYF sale on Saturday.

4.  All heifers entered in this sale must be owned, tagged and photographed for proof of  ownership at the Wise
County Sheriff’s Posse grounds on January 5, 2008 or on weather date.  Only these animals will be eligible to sell.  
Proof of pregnancy (pregnancy tested) must be presented as weigh in.

5.  All dairy breeds are eligible to exhibit and sell,  including grade and registered animals providing their minimum
weight is as follows:  Jerseys—600 lbs., Holsteins and other breeds—800 lbs.  All sale heifers to be approved by the
floor sift committee.  No crossbred animals will be eligible to sell.

6.  The 2 heifers as selected by the judge will be eligible for the auction sale on Saturday.  The Dairy Heifer sale has
been combined with the WCYF Auction Sale on Saturday.  The sale Rule #5 in the General Rule section (each exhibitor
will be allowed to sell not more than 1 species) includes Dairy Heifers.  For further clarification contact the Dairy
Superintendent.

7.  Buyer ownership begins immediately after animals are sold.

8.  Upon request exhibitors will have current health certificates available for all auction heifers.

9.  ALL DAIRY AUCTION HEIFERS will show in a special dairy auction class only.  The Dairy Department Superintendent
will arrange the dairy auction class to best suit the animals entered.  Unthrifty, unhealthy or poorly cared for heifers
may be sifted at the judgment of the Dairy Auction Committee.

10.  The Dairy show judge will set the sale order according to placing and quality.

11.  Buyers will accept full responsibility for soundness, breeding and quality of animals purchased.

12.  Exhibitors of registered heifers must display registration papers upon request and will furnish new owners with
transferred registration certificates.

13.  A deduction of 3% of the sale price of each animal will be used to pay auction sale expenses.  Cost of
photographs for buyers will be deducted from sale price of each animal in the sale.

14.  Auction heifers are subject to all general rules of the Dairy Show and will be judged and placed according to their
quality.  Premiums will be determined by Dairy Sale Committee.

15.  Bids for floor prices will be obtained for each dairy sale heifer.

16.  The Dairy Show Superintendent reserves the right to make binding decisions on any situations that are not
covered in the listed rules and regulations and to settle any dispute or disagreements that may arise.

17.  All heifers must be weighed in between 6:00—7:00 p.m. Tuesday to be eligible for the auction sale.

18.  Exhibitors will be paid by check after all auction purchases are collected and deposited.

19.  Dairy Auction Heifers may be shown in other appropriate classes in the Dairy Show.
