DAIRY BREEDING GOAT DIVISION

RULES AND INFORMATION
1.  The General Rules of the Wise County Youth Fair and the following
rules will govern the Market Goat show.

2.  Entry fee is $20.00 for Wethers and $10.00 for Breeding Goats.  Entry
fee and entry forms must be turned in on or before February 16, 2008.  
Late registration deadline is February 22, 2008.  FOR FURTHER
INFORMATION AND EXPLANATION SEE RULE #2 UNDER GENERAL RULES.

3.  All animals must be owned by the exhibitor or the exhibitors immediate
family.
    Breeding —   January 5, 2008
    Wethers  —   January 5, 2008
MARKET WETHER
4.  Market Wethers can show with horns.  Horns must be blunt tipped prior to arrival at the fair
grounds.  No tipping allowed on the grounds. Horn tip should be NO smaller than the diameter
of a dime.
NO Exceptions.

5.  All market wethers must be shorn prior to arriving at the Wise County Youth Fair.  Hair may
not be longer that 3/8 inch from the hocks and knees up, excluding the tail up.  

6.  Wethers must be ear tagged and/or tattooed on the State Validation date or the Wise County
Youth Fair validation date. Animals may be validated or tagged in the family name with
exhibitors designated at time of weigh in.

7.  Market Wethers will be strictly weighed under the direction of the department
superintendent. Minimum weight will be 55 lbs. and maximum weight will be 140 lbs. with 3 lbs.
grace.   
NO WEIGH BACKS.

8.  Market goats will be classified at time of weigh in. Decision of the classifier is final.

9.  Market wethers will be divided by weight and classified into market and dairy breeds.

10.  DAIRY WETHER
    Definition of “Dairy Wether”:  A neutered male goat that is a 100% dairy breeding according
to American Dairy Goat Assoc. breed qualifications and disqualifications.

11.  
Arrival of Market Wethers will be 3—7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.  Weigh-in will be 5:00—7:00 p.
m. They will be weighed in by community.  Order will be announced at time of weigh in.
 Judging
will begin at 12:00 noon on Thursday.
  Market Wethers released at 12:00 noon Friday.

12.  Only those wethers shown in the Wise County Youth Fair will be allowed to be sold on the
floor.

13. Each exhibitor will be allowed to exhibit (4) four Market Goats at the show.  Only (4) four will
be allowed on the grounds and only (4) four will be allowed to be put on the floor to be sold at
Market.

14.  Overall grand and reserve, plus the champion and reserve from each division will be sold,
then a percent of each breed staying as close to twenty-five (25) lots. It will be divided by the
total number of goat entries in all breeds based on a percentage that will be in the sale. Plus or
minus 1.

15.  Animals not taken care of during the show will be removed from the barn.

16.  Animals must be shown by the exhibitor.  If exhibitor has two (2) or more goats in the same
class, a substitute exhibitor will be allowed.  (SEE RULE #12 IN GENERAL RULES.)

BREEDING BOER DOES
17.  STATE AND FEDERAL SCRAPIE REQUIREMENTS:
 All female goats, both market and breeding, must have an official USDA Scrapie Eradication
Program Identification Tag and adhere to any current scrapie requirements as outlined by the
Texas Animal Health Commission
 Tattoos may be used to identify registered or meat and dairy show goats, as long as the
animals are accompanied by their registration papers. All non-registered goats must have the
USDA Scrapie Tag.

18.  Breeding does may show with horns or be dehorned. Fitting is up to the discretion of the
exhibitor.

19.  Breeding does registration papers and tattoos will be checked Monday at 3:00 pm until 6:00
pm. Any unregistered breeding boer doe on day of show older than 3 months must be validated
with a NEW tag at the January tag in.

20.  The age of the animals shall be computed from the date it is judged.

21.  NO Bucks or Billies.  Only Females in the Breeding Show.

22.  Female Breeding Boer goat exhibitors will be awarded premiums and ribbons through 6th
place.  No Female Boer and Crosses will be sold at the Auction.

BREEDING DAIRY DOES
23. Arrival of Dairy Does will be 3—6:00 p.m. Monday.  Does must be checked in on Monday to
be eligible to show.
 Judging will begin with Sr does at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Milking Does &
kids being bottle fed may arrive in barn by 7 am Tuesday. Breeding will be released following
the show.

24.  Breeding Dairy does must be dehorned and show no secondary horn growth in excess of
one inch from skull.  Measurement will be taken from the base of the skull to the inside tip of
the horn. All Dairy Goats will abide by the ADGA rule that disqualifies Dairy Goats with more
than two teats.

25.  No bucks allowed at show over 2 months of age.

26.  Breeding Dairy Goats will be judged according to ADGA rules and be shown by breeds as
follows: AOP, Lamancha, Nubians, and Recorded Grades

27.  Dairy exhibitors are recommended to dress in a white shirt and white or black pants.

28.  Breeding Dairy Goats must be groomed and clipped before coming to the fair grounds.  
Breeding Dairy Does are recommended to have a winter clip.
